Return to Sport Update Following Premier Doug Ford’s Announcement
The Provincial Government has released its phased in re-opening plan. This includes a resumption of sport activities, specifically individual low-contact sports – including reference to cycling and cycling facilities. While this is certainly positive news, it is crucial to understand this is not an invitation to return to “normal” cycling and club activities. Physical distancing and other provincially identified requirements remain in place. As a result, Ontario Cycling Association [OCA] will not be sanctioning any club activities, training camps, or competitions until appropriate safety guidelines have been approved for implementation. The safety of all members and the general public remain at the forefront of all decisions relating to a return to organized sport.
There have been many discussions and planning has already taken place to help expedite a return to cycling as restrictions are eased. However, fully understanding the parameters to allow these activities to take place safely requires additional consultation with health and legal experts to ensure any risks are mitigated to the greatest extent possible.
The Ontario Cycling Association is committed to working with our members and partners in taking the steps towards a return to cycling activities. In the meantime, we ask for your understanding as we gather and await the information required to maintain the health and well-being of all those involved. We will provide more information shortly.
Stay healthy, stay safe, stay positive.
